Caine Carraway wants nothing to do with Alexa's efforts at redemption, but it's not so easy to push her away. Determined to make her hate him, he brings her to the edge of her patience and waits for her to walk away. But his actions only draw them together and, despite the odds, they begin an intense and all-consuming affair.

My Review:
I was eagerly awaiting this book as I'm a big fan of Samantha Young's writing. I've devoured all her books so far and was intrigued by the blurb for this. Oh boy! I wasn't disappointed. I have to admit I would have read this book without the blurb or even the title as I really enjoy her writing.

Alexa is guilt-stricken over her father's past actions that have caused hurt to Caine Carraway. She is desperate to help him in a misguided belief that she can right her father's mistakes. Caine is not remotely interested in her 'rescue' attempt and is bitter about the past. He wasn't counting on the attraction that sparked between them and struggles with his own inner turmoil.

Caine and Alexa are both well written, multi-faceted characters. The author always seems to write characters that you can connect with emotionally and can truly care about. Alexa is great. She's funny, smart and strong, but also a bit naive and has some self doubt issues. I liked her a lot because she was real. Caine was a bit more complicated but I still loved his character. A typical alpha male, there were times I wanted to shake him but I could still see where he was coming from. He could be harsh sometimes and almost cruel but underneath it could be endearingly sweet. I loved reading their interactions and how their relationship developed. Their attraction was sizzling.

The secondary characters were also well written, believable and added extra depth to the book.

The story had lots of twists and turns with some suspense thrown in, but was also romantic and emotional too. It was all perfectly balanced though with nothing that seemed over the top or out of place. The writing was excellent with a plot to match. Samantha Young has a knack for pulling you so deeply into a story and the characters lives and thoughts that it blots everything else out. I can honestly say that her books stay with you for sometime after finishing. This was no exception. Ending this was a bit of a double edged sword. While I was eager to see how the story ended I was loathe to say goodbye to characters that had become almost like old friends.

I really loved this book and would definitely recommend it. If you haven't read Samantha Young's books then you've been missing out. She has a great storytelling talent that is a real gift.

I give this 5 super awesome stars. I would give it more if I could. I look forward to reading more from this author.
